Of course, to make sense of this post you have to forget that Togashi and his wife are supporters of the LGBTQ (how many more letters can it get?) community, as well as all his play with gender (Kurapika, Kalluto and Kite, but especially Alluka and Neferpitou). My actual point is that despite the fact that many gay-coded characters are villains, I don't think I've ever seen a thread on this sub accusing Togashi himself of homophobia, which I take to mean he did a darn good job: despite how sensitive the issue is, he did not make the characters feel forced or, on the other hand, symptoms of discrimination. The title is a total red herring, because it makes it sound like I am suggesting that Togashi uses homosexual/non-heterosexual characters as villains as a way to appeal to homophobic tendencies, which can be expected of a male shonen readership (strike this last part if you disagree, it's not relevant).
